Exchange Session Topics
Exchange Sessions:
There are nine broad topics covered in the Exchange Sessions. Session times for each specific topic are available on the Agenda.
Below, each topic is described more fully with listings of discussion points. These discussion points are only examples and participants are welcome to discuss more points than those listed here. Topic presentations and discussions may include successes, failures, and lessons learned.

Repository Systems:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of open source, commercial and/or homegrown repository systems for storing digital assets. Discussions may cover pilot testing of repository software, processes involved with the set-up and maintenance of a repository system, or repository experiences (either good or bad).
Identification, Selection, and Appraisal of Digital Assets:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of identification, selection and appraisal of digital assets. Discussions may cover identification of specific formats (e.g. online publications, websites), identification tools, criteria for appraisal, differentiating between digital content and digital assets, or successful/unsuccessful methods of identification, selection and appraisal.
Collection of Digital Assets:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of collecting digital assets. Discussions may cover collecting digital assets in specific formats (e.g. websites, email, born-digital publications and databases), tools for collecting assets, collaboration in the collection process, or successful/unsuccessful collection projects.
Authentication of Digital Assets:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of authenticating digital assets. Discussions may cover authentication standards, verification software and/or tools, or experiences with authentication (positive or negative).
Metadata:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of metadata. Discussions may cover selection and implementation of metadata schema, metadata guidelines, creation of metadata (manual or automatic), collaborative metadata creation, tools for metadata creation, or successful/unsuccessful metadata projects.
Resources/Workflows for Managing Digital Assets:
This exchange session will discuss workflows and resources for managing digital assets. Discussions may cover staffing; time considerations; successful/unsuccessful workflows; tools for resource management; incorporating digital asset management into existing library/archive workflows; defining staff and skills needed; or merging digital and print resources/workflows.
Access to Archived Digital Assets:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of accessing archived digital assets. The discussions may cover broad mechanisms for providing access, such as integrated access through library catalogs, finding aids or federated search tools; access to specific types of digital assets such as websites, email, born-digital publications and databases; restrictions on access; or successful/unsuccessful methods of access.
Preservation of Digital Assets:
This exchange session will encompass all aspects of preserving digital assets. Discussions may cover methods of digital preservation, preservation planning, preservation of proprietary file formats, preservation of specific digital formats (e.g. email, websites, or databases), tools and resources for long-term digital preservation, or experiences with preservation.
Organization (Central versus Federated):
This exchange session will discuss institutional organization as it relates to digital preservation. Discussions may cover organizational framework for a digital preservation program; collaboration between libraries, archives, and government records; creating a program structure; legislative and executive mandates related to digital preservation; creating and implementing policies; enforcing compliance from digital asset creators; or determining how digital preservation fits into the mission statement and current practices of the institution.
