The 2008 Best Practices Exchange will be hosted by The Montana State Library, The Montana Historical Society Research Center, The State Law Library of Montana and The Montana Records and Information Management Division of the Secretary of State’s Office on May 21-23 of 2008. Best Practices 2007 Announced.

The 2007 Best Practices Exchange will be hosted by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records on May 2-4 of 2007. View the web site for the Exchange here: http://www.bpexchange.org/2007/
The 2007 Exchange will cover five broad topic areas related to digital information in the government environment: Metadata and Discovery; Access; Preservation; Technology; and Project Management and Outreach. Please register for the 2007 BPE by April 2nd, 2007.

Digital Preservation Network.

The newly established Digital Preservation Network was created to forge a community of practitioners who are focused on the issues of preserving the digital records and publications of government. The Network has an online forum which requires registration to access; you can request access to the forums at http://www.digitalpreservationnetwork.org. Current members of the Digital Preservation Network include the Washington State Archives, Utah State Library, State Library of North Carolina, New Hampshire State Archives and Records Management, Illinois State Library, and Kansas Historical Society.


Article about Best Practices Exchange

The June issue of RLG DigiNews featured the article "Foundations for a Successful Digital Preservation Program: Discussions from Digital Preservation in State Government: Best Practices Exchange 2006." The article summarizes discussions from exchange sessions related to the establishment of a successful digital preservation program, as well as showcases the visual murals of Eileen Clegg.


Future Best Practices Exchanges

The success of the Best Practices Exchange 2006 has prompted several institutions to ask about hosting the Exchange in the future. This interest bodes well for digital practitioners, suggesting that the Best Practices Exchange will become an annual function and that the community of practice will continue to grow and evolve as they jointly seek solutions to the dilemmas of digital preservation.
